The Green Generation Shingle was engineered in our lab with the desire to develop a roofing system that reduces our dependency on oil. Two to three barrels of oil must be refined to manufacture one square of Asphalt shingles – the average US home has 32 squares of roofing equating to 64 to 96 barrels of refined oil.
In 2005 the US used more than 546,000 barrels of oil per day to produce Asphalt, reported by the US EIA (Energy Information Administration). Almost half a trillion barrels of oil must be refined per year to support the manufacturing of asphalt Shingles. The Blosser Stephens Green Generation Shingle has been engineered to ship more than three times the amount of metal shingles on a single truck compared to asphalt shingles, thus significantly reducing oil consumption.
